| When you have finally decided on a online dating
site, meeting new people will be inevitable. Exercising a little caution is always
sensible. Its not to say that Internet dating is different to any other dating but
by following some of these simple guidelines, you can rest assured that you will be safe
at all times. When making your personal profile, never give out personal information that could be used to trace you. Dont give out your private telephone number, your business or personal e-mail addresses and especially not your home address. Most of the sites use an internal e-mail address to disguise your private e-mail but for the ones that dont, we recommended you obtain an anonymous e-mail account from sites like yahoo or hotmail to send personal e-mails to other singles. When you start chatting to someone we advised that you use the instant messaging service which most dating sites provide. When chatting to a new contact, ask lots of questions so that you have a good background of information. If you notice any inconsistencies in what they say, break off all contact with that person. If your chosen site does not have an online chat facility, you can use Yahoo messenger, msn messenger or ICQ. After communicating and feeling comfortable with your prospective match, the talk of going on a date may arise. Be sure you know all the information you can about that person before going out. When a date is finally arranged, you should notify a close friend as to where you are going. Give them as much information as you know about the person i.e. a name, picture and if you have become acquainted enough with your potential date, an address. It is also wise to arrange your own transportation to and from the date so you can leave quickly if you need to. Never have your date pick you up from your home on the first date and always carry a cell phone with you if possible. Dont be afraid to ask for help on your date. If you are unhappy with anything or feel uncomfortable about your date, then call a friend or family and if needs be call the police. It is also wise to arrange to ring a friend half way through the date to tell them everything is ok. Remember to make your first date take place in a public that is full of people. Lunch or coffee is a good starting point to get acquainted. Never go some place with your date that means you will be alone with them even if your date wants to, say no and leave. And finally, bare this one last thing in mind. Just because you have been chatting and exchanging e-mails, when you finally meet, they may not be what you were expecting. If you follow these few guidlines then you should be perfectly safe and you will enjoy your dating experience. |
